"We the Baptist of Glade Creek community met August 1, 1895 and organized into a Missionary Baptist Church of 33 members and three deacons, called to serve were; A.R. Foster, B.F. Oliver and W.A. Natins as deacons, W.A. McClellan, Pastor and B.L. Gilbert, clerk. Meeting continued until August 4, during which 11 additional members joined the new church." These are the original minutes that began the history at Glade Creek Missionary Baptist church as families and friends gathered near a spring on Glade Creek just north of the present church building.
The first sermons were preached under large oak trees and brush arbors. A building of rough plank boards was used for the first time in December, 1895 and served proudly until the present building was dedicated in May 1917. Just as acorns from those big oak trees took root and multiplied, so did the membership of the church. Fourth and fifth generations are keeping the goals of their ancestors moving forward. Over the last ten years, there have been many changes and additins to the church building and grounds. We continue to grow in both number and our faith steadfast in the teaching of God's word according to scripture and minister to the spiritual needs of all who enter. We are thankful for our past and prayerful for our future. |
